We sat down with Charlotte Kantharia, founder of Kantharia Interiors, to discuss what goes into creating beautifully designed spaces that truly feel like home.

What is the first thing you do when designing a new space?

Charlotte:

"The most important part of any project is taking the time to experience the space. I always like to visit and simply sit within it before making any design decisions. It gives you the opportunity to understand how the natural light moves throughout the day, appreciate the architectural features, and really feel how the room wants to be used.

Those first impressions become the foundation of every design we create, whether it's a commercial project or a family home."

Where do you find your inspiration?

Charlotte:

"I believe every location tells its own story. Whether we're surrounded by beautiful countryside or sleek contemporary architecture, we love taking inspiration from those surroundings and weaving them into the colours, textures and finishes we choose.

Design should always feel connected to its environment while reflecting the personality of the people who live or work there."

What makes a home feel luxurious?

Charlotte:

"Luxury isn't always about spending more—it's about creating a feeling. Small details can completely transform how a space feels.

Simple changes like swapping standard cushion inserts for feather-filled pads instantly make a room feel softer and more inviting. Layering beautiful textiles, introducing natural textures and adding carefully chosen accessories all contribute to that feeling of comfort and quality."

What finishing touch do you never overlook?

Charlotte:

"Scent is one of the most overlooked elements of interior design, yet it's one of the first things people notice when they walk into a home. Creating a beautiful space isn't just about how it looks—it's about how it makes you feel."

"Artwork and styling can completely transform a space. Beautiful furniture lays the foundation, but it's the finishing touches that give a room its personality.

Choosing artwork in the right colours, with frames that complement the finishes in the room, creates harmony and brings the whole design together. We often create bespoke artwork for our clients so every piece feels personal and perfectly suited to their home.
